Default Helllpppppppppppppppppp! please?

In the story called Bartleby The Scrivener by Herman Melville, why is bartleby acting that way? why is he always saying "i prefer not to"?

please help me, i reag the story and i didn't get it. it's so annoying.

what deos Bartleby symbolize? is it related to christianity?

bartleby is essentially a phallic metaphor meant to only vaguely symbolize the sodomy of the planet, interposed with nuances of spicy ground mustard.
