  1. This is a very impressive book. I got it as a gift and didn’t expect to be so “wowed” by something that was written primarily as a text. In fact, it would probably be extremely useful in the classroom or for anyone interested in the profession of interior design. But I’m 100 percent a lay reader in this field, and I found the book accessible, fascinating, and enjoyable to read – as would, I think, anyone interested in design either as an idea or for personal practical use. The whole history of how people designed the spaces in which they lived or performed other activities, starting with very early history and including non-Western cultures, was quite an eye opener to me. The book is packed with theoretical and practical information, and I loved the hundreds of great color photos and illustrations. The glossary and bibliography are really helpful, too. Now I have some real help and inspiration for fixing up my house!
